“Can you lead a session based on our topic of A Year in the New
Forest?” was the question – and of course the answer was yes. So off to Milford on Sea I went with some of the Museum objects and my Commoning Year display and activity board.
What a fantastic morning we had. The children investigated the
objects and decided if there was a season that the object, picture or animal fitted with or whether it was something you could see or hear all year round. Through this we were able to discuss the
seasons in the New Forest, how that affected the animal and plants and how the commoning year all fitted in with the seasonal changes.
The children then went on to do lots of follow up work exploring the A Year in the New Forest covering various curriculum areas
Such a fantastic topic and an activity session that worked really well. The New Forest Centre Education Team look forward to being able to do it again…
